Why Bother Not Thinking Alone?

Left to our own devices, to our own thinking and reasoning does not bode well for any of us. The track record for mental wellness, sound relationships, and happiness does not abound in our current population. Instead, controversies, inconsistencies, and distrust proliferate the lives of many.

          Walk Wisely

Relying on human knowledge limits us to what we observe with our eyes and ears. And though there is much information at our fingertips and we may be full to the brim with all kinds of facts, figures, statistics and data, it only informs us, but never transforms us.

But for those who believe in the only wise and sovereign One, there is knowledge to be gained that surpasses the limitations of what we see and hear and transforms our lives.

When I accepted God’s invitation to life, instead of following in my father’s footsteps to death, my interest in reading the Bible was immediately ignited. I wanted to know what had just happened to me and I wanted to know the One who had made it happen.

Having never owned, read or opened a Bible before, I went to a bookstore to shop for one. I never knew that there were so many different versions of the same thing.  How was I to choose from so many options? Fortunately, the Bibles were not bound in plastic and I could open them up and read them. When I found a translation that I could easily understand, I bought it, took it home and began reading it.

The Psalms seemed to be written especially for me. They spoke of the feelings I’d never been able to articulate, let alone define. Then I went on to Proverbs which gave me simple instructions to practice living by.

Because the word of God is active, alive and sharper than any two edged sword, it does not matter if I read a verse, passage or whole book more than once, it always has an appropriate application to whatever season I am in, whatever challenge I face or just the right encouragement for the moment.

The moment we accept Jesus’ invitation for a relationship, we are given everything that pertains to the new life that now precedes from the source of the One who gave us life in the first place.

Reading the Bible illuminates our minds with truth, allows us to grow in sound judgment, and acquaints us with the one and only true God.

Why bother not thinking alone? Even the wisest human alive does not come close to the limitless wisdom of God. But when we link ourselves to the wisdom of God our thinking will be changed and our will be transformed.
