Why Bother Asking Someone Wiser Than Ourselves for Direction?
Direction
Who do you count on when you need personal direction? If you are like me, you’re probably going to ask someone who knows you, someone who is trustworthy, and someone who is wise.
The key to finding our way along life’s path has everything to do with who we choose to trust. If we trust only ourselves, our vision gets incredibly small, our self defense gets incredibly big and we become consumed with our personal survival.
If we trust in the ways and whims of our culture, we will get carried away by the ever changing philosophies and fads.
Trusting in a modern day influencer can only take us so far; only as far they themselves have gone.
So then, who is that someone who knows you? Who is that someone who is trustworthy? Who is that someone who is wise?
A long time ago, I met that Person and since then, I’ve found them to be completely worth trusting any time and every time I need direction in my life.
My need for direction has a long history. It began when I nearly ended my life because of my hopelessness. But this Person showed up and invited me to choose to live my life differently. Consequently, I chose to learn to live life differently; by faith in Someone other than myself.
Other junctures in life besides choosing life or death include choosing to marry or stay single, to be a mom or not, to love my children or not, to work or not, to write or not, to pursue the things that bring life or not. The list is endless, but the direction I’m given is the same; keep walking by faith alongside the one who is wiser than me.
Why Bother?
Why bother asking Someone wiser than Ourselves for direction? Speaking from experience, I know that when I express my need for direction, I am heard. Then I listen for a wise response that comes in various forms; validation from someone who knows me, a word of encouragement from the scripture or a sense of peace that surpasses my understanding.
Then, as I acknowledge their wisdom and insight, a great thing begins to happen. I get a better idea of the direction I need to go.
P.S. I wrote the story of my journey to forgiveness for those who, like me, know they need to change, but are not quite sure where to start. You can find A Heart’s Journey To Forgiveness at Redemption Press and Amazon.
