Why Bother Sorting the Relevant from the Irrelevant?
Relevant or Irrelevant?
I certainly get my share of irrelevant, unsolicited and unwanted offers, advice, and information in my email box. This stuff only sidetracks, distracts and blurs my focus. Thankfully, unlike cleaning my basement, garage, or a closet, junk emails are just a click away from being deleted.
Even when I set filters to ward against the unwanted, unsolicited, and irrelevant information, advice and offers, some of that stuff seeps in anyway. There is no sure fire way to keep the extraneous out. But, more importantly than keeping things from coming in is knowing what I need to eliminate. Only then can I keep the irrelevant, unwanted, and unsolicited offers, advice and information from accumulating in my inbox.
But, sorting through the irrelevant, unsolicited and unwanted offers, advice and information that accumulates inside our heads and ultimately transfers into our daily living is not just a click away from eradication. Instead, we have to spend a little bit of thinking time to thoughtfully consider what goes on inside our heads.
Our minds are busy all the time with thoughts that occupy our minds. Ultimately though, we are the ones who make the decision as to what we allow ourselves to be absorbed, immersed, and engrossed by.
Truth is the best and strongest filter, I believe, that when implemented into our lives, helps to keep the irrelevant, unsolicited and unwanted offers, advice and information from distracting, side tracking and blurring our focus from what we personally value.
The unchanging, unwavering and rock solid truth is available and accessible to everyone one of us not only in a variety of translations of the Bible, but also personally by way of Jesus.
When we don’t use Truth as the filter for our lives, then we are like, “A stupid carpenter who built his house on the sandy beach. When a storm rolled in and the waves came up, it collapsed like a house of cards.”
We do not have to be victims of the irrelevant, unsolicited and unwanted offers, advice and information that comes our way. We do not have to allow it to accumulate inside our heads ultimately transferring into our daily living.
Why Bother?
Why bother sorting the relevant from the irrelevant? We were not created to live a life dominated by irrelevant information that infiltrates our daily living. If we’ve got the Truth, we’ve got what it takes to live true to the values of our lives.
P.S. I wrote the story of my journey to forgiveness for those who, like me, know they need to change, but are not quite sure where to start. You can find A Heart’s Journey To Forgiveness at Redemption Press and Amazon.
